Biography

I received my bachelor’s in International Business and Marketing 2010. I received my MA in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations in 2012. I did a study abroad and internship in Nicaragua. It was an enlightening and impactful experience. After leaving Nicaragua, I decided to further my education and I moved to San Antonio and I completed my PhD in 2018. I worked for a while as a research associate at the University of Health Science Center. Then I joined the faculty at the University of Mississippi in the fall of 2021.

Research

My research interests include access to healthcare, health inequities, health disparities and vulnerable population utilization of healthcare services. My dissertation, titled “Determinants of Women’s Health in Nigeria: The Role of Media Exposure and Autonomy” focused on women’s health outcomes in regards to their utilization of healthcare services and the impact autonomy has on women’s decisions regarding their health. I specialize in spatial analysis, quantitative techniques and survey analysis. I am also interested in international development main how a lack of infrastructure leads to poor health outcomes and poor quality of life. My current research interests are the impact social media has on the utilization of health care, the connection between health literacy and health status of women and other vulnerable populations.
