Brieann Avery, an MA student in Sociology, presented a conference paper at the 2017 Alabama Mississippi Sociological Association meetings at Jackson State University in Jackson, MS (Feb. 23-24). The paper is based on her MA thesis research and is entitled, “Hip-Hop and the Self-Perceptions of Black Women: How Places and Identity Strategies Matter.” She was awarded the “Best Graduate Student Paper Award” with a prize of $200. Allie Smith
Allie Smith, an MA student in Anthropology, was awarded “Best Poster” in the Social Sciences and Education Division during the recent Graduate Student Research Council Research Symposium held on March 2nd at the University of Mississippi. Her poster, entitled “Digging through Trash: Results of an Archaeological Investigation at the Stark Farm Site (22OK778), Oktibbeha County, Mississippi,” is based on her MA thesis research. She was awarded $300 for travel. Congratulations, Allie!
